How Can I Boost My Wireless Internet Connection Speed?

How Can I Boost My Wireless Internet Connection Speed?

These days having an internet connection is a must. It is now an essential thing for home entertainment and for work. We need it in order to keep track of our work through emails. It is also now the fastest way of getting information and news. It is also becoming competitive in the realm of entertainment.  If you don’t have an internet connection now, then that just means you are missing out on a great deal. Check out iinet to see how their connection speeds compare.

Faster Connection is a Must

These days it is no longer enough that one has an internet connection. It is also a must that it should be fast. It can really be frustrating when the speed of your internet connection is not meeting the use that you have in mind for it. To help you out, here are some tips that you can use in order to boost your wireless connection speed.

Placing Your Router in the Right Location

Your router might not be pretty to look at, but that does not mean that you should hide it away where no one can see it.  Remember that the Wi-Fi signal of your router can be affected by physical obstructions, so if you place your router somewhere where there are a lot of things that can block it then you won’t be getting the most out of it. You should also know that wireless routers are capable of working on several channels and you should just pick the one that has the least of interference in it. You can use a Wi-Fi anal
yser for picking the best channel in your house.

Remove the Interference from Other Appliances

We have mentioned that there are interferences which can affect the quality of the Wi-Fi signal in your home. Instead of working your way around such interferences, you can actually work towards removing any interference that you might get. These signals that can interfere with your Wi-Fi signal would come from appliances like cordless phones and microwaves. You can buy a cordless phone on a different band or you can simply move it away from your router.

Better Security

The more devices that are connected using your Wi-Fi signal, the slower it would get. That’s why it is essential that you should secure it with a password. But sometimes that is not enough. It is easy to hack through WPA passwords so you have to take more serious measures when it comes to securing your Wi-Fi signal.

Control Your Applications

There are some applications that eat up your bandwidth and because of that you will see an obvious slowdown on your internet connection. If someone in your house uses Torrent files, plays online video games or uses services like Netflix then you would really see and feel that your internet connection is slowing down.  You can also use something called QoS which is short for Quality of Service which allows you to prioritize certain applications that use the internet over others. That way the important applications would not be affected by others.

How to stop iOS 7 from destroying your iPhone's battery life

How to stop iOS 7 from destroying your iPhone's battery life

iOS 7 is all kinds of sexy, but with a slew of fancy new features comes more strain on the ever-important statistic of battery life. iOS 7 is compatible with iPhone 4 or later (though not all features are supported on older devices), so if you're upgrading your current device to the new operating system, there's a good chance you could see a noticeable decrease in battery life.
If you're looking to avoid any pitfalls in the battery department, here are a few settings you can tweak to keep iOS 7 from sucking your iPhone's life like an evil, software vampire.
Disable background refresh
iOS 7 lets certain apps refresh even when you're not using them, which is both super convenient and a big problem for users who want the most out of their batteries. Disabling Background Refresh entirely would be your best bet, but even disabling the feature on just a few apps should help your device remain lively for a bit longer.
Alter your location services
It seems like just about every app wants to track your location these days. For some apps, like Maps, this makes a lot of sense, but if you've authorized other apps (Twitter, Facebook) to track your location without actually using the in-app features that go along with it, you should turn it off. In addition to apps, iOS 7 has a whole host of system-level options for location tracking, including local advertising and even the compass. If you don't use the apps to begin with, turning off the GPS tracking won't do much, but if you can disable tracking for a few of your most-used apps, you could see a decent boost in battery life.
Not using AirDrop? Kill it
iOS 7 introduces AirDrop to the iPhone for the first time, but even if you find yourself using the handy Dropbox-style feature from time to time, you should be turning it off when you don't need it. This is made easy by the new Control Center in iOS 7, which can be brought up by swiping upwards on the home screen. From here, it's just two taps to either enable or disable AirDrop, and while you're here, you can also disable Bluetooth and/or WiFi to help save additional battery life when you're not using them.Note: AirDrop is not available on the iPhone 4 or 4S.
3D goes bye-bye
OK, this one is going to hurt: You know that fancy 3D parallax wallpaper effect that iOS 7 introduces? Unfortunately for users who want the most out of their battery, it's a luxury that does nothing but burn power to make your home screen look cool. You can disable this feature by toggling on the "Reduce Motion" option in the Accessibility menu.
The same goes for the new dynamic wallpapers. Yes, a moving background image is a pleasant bit of eye candy, but it serves no functional purpose other than shortening your time between charges. Kick these features to the curb and your battery will thank you.

iPhone 5 battery life is significantly reduced by iOS 7

iPhone 5 battery life is significantly reduced by iOS 7

Apple’s iOS 7 debuted today to strong reviews and favorable reception. The performance improvements are significant, even on older hardware, though reviews indicate that the three year-old iPhone 4 struggles with the new animations and transitions. But the odd thing here is that one phone — the Verizon iPhone 5 — takes an absolute wallop in battery life. All of the phones are negatively impacted by the iOS 6 to iOS 7 transition, but look what happens to the iPhone 5 under WiFi compared to iOS 6 and iOS 7.

Original image courtesy of Ars Technica These tests were conducted as part of Ars Technica’s hugely comprehensive review of the entireoperating system, and what they show for the iPhone 5 is problematic for anyone looking to upgrade. We contacted Andrew Cunningham, author of the Ars review, who confirmed that the Verizon phone was tested twice, on both operating systems, with full factory resets in between each test. The numbers came out identically in each case.

There’s some difference in how each website does phone testing and it comes out in the various battery life figures. Anandtech pegs the iPhone 5 at 8.9 hours of battery life for WiFi tests in iOS 7 — midway between Ars’ 11.01 hoursThe joy of corner casesCertain people have complained of poor battery life from iOS 7 since the OS went into beta, but no one appears to have built a database of which devices were having the most problems. We know iOS 7 uses more battery life in general — it’s possible that this problem is caused by specific test characteristics and a bit of customized Verizon software. Apple produces two versions of the iPhone 5 — the A1428 and the A1429. While the underlying hardware is typically very nearly identical, carriers do install custom software on a device to identify it to their own specific networks.

Alternately, it’s possible that a combination of webpage specific code, iOS 7 changes, or a WiFi bug have combined to keep part of the chip from dropping into sleep mode. If the WiFi radio is sitting open constantly, or a CPU core is spun up and looping rather than falling back to sleep after the page load, it would explain why the chip is blowing through its battery life in dramatic fashion. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to tell where the issue actually lies, and whether or not the Ars results are an odd anomaly or an indication of what Verizon iPhone 5 owners (or all iPhone 5 owners) can expect. Issues like this, for the record, are why I personally don’t update my phone when Apple releases a new operating system. I got burned with iOS 4 and the Apple 3G — after the update, my phone was far slower, even when performing simple tasks like launching applications immediately after a reboot. Even resets and full installations didn’t help the problem. Each of Apple’s last few iOS launches has had issues of varying degrees, so it’s not surprising that we might see some problems here, as well. Rather than declaring one side “right” versus wrong, I’d suggest a bit of practical caution. It’s obvious that in some cases, iOS 7 is hitting iPhone 5 battery life hard. Whether that reflects a software bug, corner case, or carrier oddity, it’s something that could make the upgrade experience less fun for someone who grabs the newest version without checking first. As always, your mileage may vary.

iPhone 5S vs Samsung Galaxy S4 specs comparison

We pit the two rival smartphones head to head
Mon Sep 16 2013,
APPLE AND SAMSUNG have been fighting for the number one best-sellingsmartphone title for years. In the past, Apple's latest iPhone has traditionally won the yearly grudge match. However, since the death of iconic Apple founder Steve Jobs, Apple's lead on Samsung has gradually waned, with each new top-end Galaxy smartphone boasting increasingly higher sales.
For this reason, prior to its unveiling many industry commentators had begun to quietly predict that the iPhone 5S might become the first ever Apple smartphone not to beat Samsung's flagship handset in head to head sales.
Now with the iPhone 5S and its specifications revealed, it's too still early to know the final outcome in 2013's Apple vs Samsung battle, but the two smartphones' specifications suggest that the fight might be the most heated to date.
Measurements and weight
iPhone 5S: 124x59x7.6mm, 112g
Samsung Galaxy S4: 137x70x7.9mm, 130g
The Apple iPhone 5S design looks pretty much the same as that of the iPhone 5, but it comes with multiple colour options. This means, as before, that the iPhone 5S is significantly lighter and smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S4, so it will likely be a more popular choice for smaller-handed people.

Display
iPhone 5S: 4in 1136x640, 326ppi Retina display
Samsung Galaxy S4: 5in full HD super Amoled 1920x1080 display, 441ppi
The Apple iPhone 5S has a 4in Retina display. Back in the day, when Apple first rolled out the Retina display technology, it was a big selling point for Apple devices, making the screens the sharpest and crispest ever seen on smartphones or tablets.
However a few years on, while still great, Apple's Retina displays are no longer the best on the market and a few smartphones have been released boasting better screens.
Running the Galaxy S4 head to head with the iPhone 5S' predecessor, the iPhone 5, we found Samsung's flagship had a superior screen, with its 441ppi full HD display being one of the best we've ever used.
Processor
iPhone 5S: Apple A7 processor
Samsung Galaxy S4: Quad-core 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
Apple made a big deal about its new A7 processor, claiming that it is the world's first 64-bit mobile chip and will make the iPhone 5S one of the fastest smartphones in the word, offering 40-times better CPU performance than the iPhone 5. However, as always, Apple declined to disclose the speed of its A7 processor, making it difficult to know how it will compare to the quad-core 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 powered Galaxy S4 in real-world performance.
BatteryiPhone 5S: 10 hours' 3G talk time, unspecified lithium-ion battery
Samsung Galaxy S4: 17 hours' 3G general use, 2,600mAh lithium-ion battery

Battery life is an issue for most smartphones in the present market. This remained true on the Galaxy S4, which, despite being listed as lasting “up to 17 hours” on 3G on one charge, generally needed a top-up after a regular day’s use, with an average life of about six hours when battery was in use. This means that if the unspecified battery used in the iPhone 5S lives up to Apple’s claim of 10-hour 3G talk time it should easily outlast the Galaxy S4. However, we’ll only know this for sure when we’ve had a chance to actually test the battery on the iPhone 5S.
Software
iPhone 5S: iOS 7 mobile operating system
Samsung Galaxy S4: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system
Picking which mobile operating system is better is very difficult, as the answer is largely determined by what ecosystem the user is already embedded in.
This difficulty is made worse by the fact that both companies have loaded a host of business friendly features onto their respective flagship smartphones, with Samsung having loaded the Galaxy S4 with its Knox sandboxing service and Apple its new custom Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
Camera
iPhone 5S: 8MP rear, 1.2MP front
Samsung Galaxy S4: 13MP rear, 2MP front
While the iPhone 5S camera looks lower specified, as any camera expert will tell you, it's not just about the megapixel count. Because of this, while it doesn't capture as many pixels, the Apple iPhone 5S might prove better at taking photos, because it boasts custom technology designed to capture bigger pixels, meaning that, like the HTC One, it should be better than average at taking photos in low light.
Storage
iPhone 5S: 16/32/64GB storage, no microSD card slot, 2GB of RAM
Samsung Galaxy S4: 16/32/64GB storage, microSD card slot up to 64GB, 2GB of RAM
Both devices are available with multiple storage options, however the Galaxy S4 comes with a microSD card slot, meaning that buyers who can't afford the upfront cost of the 64GB model can add to the phone's storage at a later date.
Overall
On paper both the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4 are good smartphones and both have definite enterprise appeal. Once we've had time to thoroughly put the two head to head in an in-depth, hands-on comparison review, we'll make callon which is the best business smartphone.
The iPhone 5S is set for release on 20 September.

Upgrading to iOS 7 Here’s What You Need to Know

Apple’s iOS 7, which is ushering in a completely redesigned mobile future to the Cupertino company’s ecosystem, will be released in less than 24 hours. Meaning? You better back your device up now, because once you hit that update button there may be no going back. Big new releases always carry bugs and other issues, so it’s important you air on the side of caution before jumping in head first.
Tomorrow is bigger than just another software update; iOS 7 promises to be a huge step toward redefining Apple’s platform, which up until now has been dogged by Scott Forstall’s affection for skeuomorphism. Gone are the leather-bound calendars and felt covered game centers. With Jony Ive now in charge, iOS is becoming deeper and more complex, yet familiar. We’ve been using the Gold Master since it was released last week, and have absolutely no complaints thus far.
When iOS 7 does get pushed out tomorrow, and assuming you’ve backed your device up, there will be plenty of compatibility to contend with. If you bought a new device in the past few years, you’re fine, you’ll have no issues. But anything before the iPhone 4, and anything except the latest iPod touch, you’re unfortunately out of luck. Just because you do have a compatible device, however, doesn’t mean you’ll get every single feature iOS 7 has to offer. In fact, there’s a pretty lengthy list of features that are only available on certain devices.
For example, Filters in Camera (live view) are available for the iPhone 5 or later, and the iPod touch (5th generation), whereas Filters in Photos will be available on the iPhone 4 and up, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation). Additionally, AirDrop, one of Apple’s bigger features to iOS 7, will only be supported by the iPhone 5 and later, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini and iPad touch (5th generation).
There are a few other compatibility discrepancies included in Apple’s fine print, so you’ll want to familiarize yourself before updating tomorrow. Of course, you’ll want to make sure all your apps are up to date as well before you journey into iOS 7 water—many apps have already issued iOS 7 compatibility well ahead of the software’s arrival. Once iOS 7 is officially pushed out, we’ll be sure to let you guys know. Are you going to update on the first day?

Themes like musical instruments, kitchen utensils and various other daily objects explain the gist of this game.
